Ice-Candy Man is a historical novel set during the Partition of India in 1947. It narrates the story of Lenny, an eight-year-old Parsi girl in Lahore, who witnesses the horrors of communal violence. Through Lenny’s innocent perspective, the novel portrays how friendships and relationships are shattered due to religious and political divides. The story revolves around her ayah (nanny) and how she becomes a victim of the chaos, leading to a tragic and heart-wrenching conclusion. The book critically examines themes of love, betrayal, power, and the impact of history on ordinary lives.
